Additional info on Reflexology and this course:
Reflexology is a science which deals with the principle
that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all of the
glands, organs and parts of the body. Stimulating these reflexes properly can
help many health problems in a natural way, a type of preventative maintenance.
The International Institute of Reflexology training program is the
Ingham Method of Reflexology. The late Eunice Ingham originated,
researched and developed Foot Reflexology as it is known today. Reflexology has
grown to international proportions under the able direction of her nephew Dwight
Byers, today's leading authority.
With age comes wisdom and knowledge and in our case, experience. For over 70
years we have been presenting workshops on the Ingham Method.
That's 70 years of experience, growth, and change most importantly 70 years of
successful results.
This is a proven reflexology training program that is focused on therapeutically
treating clients. Through unique and specific techniques, the body systems
reflexes are worked. These 2 day workshops include practical work on students’
feet and hands and classroom time for anatomy & physiology of the body.
Upon completion of all three phases, a student can take the written & practical
exam and become a Certified Reflexologist with the International Institute of
Reflexology.

TRAGER - LEVEL 1
Oct 23 - 25, Oct 30 - Nov 1
Click here to see the flyer with full info for this class!
The Trager Approach uses
non-intrusive movements to help release deep-seated physical and mental patterns
of tension while facilitating increased physical mobility, mental clarity and
deep relaxation. The goal of this gentle form is to bring us closer to the
possibility of an ageless body, to teach us to play with gravity, rather than be
bent and defeated by it. The rocking, elongating, and softly coaxing movements
of the work allow the client to recall the feelings of playfulness and the sense
of presence that we experienced as children. To recall feelings such as these at
tissue level can be powerful and transformational. This method is beneficial for
people recovering from different kinds of trauma including stress, injury, and
illness. The deep relaxation also facilitates in the performance of work and
sport.

Moving into
Balance
Tuesday October
20, 2009
from 7-9pm
Presentor:
Sarah Plumer
As a massage therapist, you work hard
to care for your clients and that takes a toll on your body. Think of yourself
as an athlete who must perform at a functionally high level in order to be of
most benefit to your clients. Just like any other athlete, it is important that
you exercise and maintain your health in an intelligent manner. This means
taking time before and after work to help your body recover so that you do not
end up with injuries and chronic pain.
Whatever your choice is for exercise,
whether its aerobic or anaerobic, you can also benefit from having a movement
protocol designed specifically for your needs. As you know from your work, every
body is different. You will gain the most longevity from this career path by
taking the best care of yourself.
During this workshop we will focus on
your upper extremities and trunk.
Topics to be covered:
-
Half Sun Salutation: larger
motions to begin with that coordinate breathing with moving
-
Weight-bearing movements to
strengthen the shoulder girdle and trunk
-
PNF patterns of the forearm to
hand
-
Exercises for the thumbs and hands
-
Discussion on the importance of
balancing flexibility and strength
About the instructor:
Sara comes to BMS with a strong background in
dance, yoga and kinesiology/anatomy instruction. In New York City she assisted
the famous dance instructor, Irene Dowd, since 2005 on instructing dance and
bodywork students on anatomy, and the biomechanics of motion of the limbs, spine
and trunk. She also teaches traditional Ashtanga Yoga and emphasizes the
importance of knowledge of physiology of breathing. For our BMS Grad Night, Sara
has designed a 2 hour workshop to enable body workers to put together a
self-care program that uses fun movements which she calls "Moving into Balance."
If you want to have a long satisfying career in massage and prevent injuries to
your "tools" (your upper body and trunk), Sara's fun class on movement is for
you! Good for 2 CEU's. See you there. - James Schmidt, Director.
Counts as 2 CEU credits
Cost: $10 for LMP's and $5 for BMS Graduates
